Department of Justice reverses funding termination for National CASA/GAL federal grants

NEWS

SEATTLE, Wash.–The National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)/Guardian ad Litem (GAL) Association has been notified by the Department of Justice (DOJ) that our three federal grant termination appeals were successful, resulting in the awards being reinstated. The three federal grants were terminated immediately and without warning on April 22. These grants included pass-through funding to state organization and local program subgrantees, as well as training and technical assistance funding for National CASA/GAL resources to and in support of the CASA/GAL network.

The notice received from the DOJ stated, “The Department, with the benefit of the information provided by the recipient in its appeal and after a thorough review of all available information about the award (including the pertinent statutory framework), determines that the award activities do align sufficiently with the Department’s priorities, including protecting American children.”

We are deeply grateful for this news from the DOJ and look forward to resuming our partnership with them in advancement the CASA/GAL mission. We sincerely appreciate your support always, and especially during the past 100 days.
