National CASA/GAL hosts book club discussion with author Lawrence Lanahan

NEWS

National CASA/GAL Book Club members discussed “The Lines Between Us: Two Families and a Quest to Cross Baltimore’s Racial Divide” by award-winning author Lawrence Lanahan. The conversation – a part of the National CASA/GAL Poverty Learning Series – explored how policies and pathologies perpetuate segregation and inequality in America. Leading up to the event, National CASA/GAL Book Club members participated in independent reading and group discussion, culminating in this special opportunity to hear directly from the author.

The National CASA/GAL Poverty Learning Series educates program staff and volunteers to advocate for children, youth and families impacted by poverty and allows CASA/GAL volunteers and staff to reflect and engage in facilitated dialogue on topics that impact the children and families they serve. CASA/GAL staff and volunteers gained more knowledge about inequalities in American cities and can use this information to better serve children in the child welfare system. The next book in the National CASA/GAL Book Club Poverty Learning Series is “Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive” by Stephanie Land.
