Six professional NFL players support local CASA programs for My Cause My Cleats initiative

The NFL’s My Cause My Cleats campaign, launched in 2016, empowers football players to wear customized cleats during weeks 13 and 14 of the NFL season. The cleats aim to promote and raise awareness for a charity that is important to the players. This year, six football players chose a local CASA program to highlight and support.

The NFL players are Daniel Carlson (Las Vegas Raiders), Khalil Davis (Houston Texans), Nick Gates (Washington Commanders), Miles Killebrew (Pittsburgh Steelers), Brock Purdy (San Francisco 49ers), and Jon Weeks (Houston Texans). Carlson, Gates, and Killebrew are supporting CASA of Clark County (Las Vegas). Davis and Weeks are supporting Child Advocates Houston and Purdy is supporting Child Advocates of Silicon Valley.

Selected players will have their cleats auctioned off by the NFL Foundation with 100% of the proceeds donated to the player’s chosen charity.

On Dec. 5, 2023, the Houston Texans announced that Jon Weeks, who supports Child Advocates Houston, was nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award. The announcement included that, “Weeks and his wife, Amanda, host an annual Christmas shopping spree for kids from Child Advocates, giving more than 25 kids the opportunity to shop for gifts at a local Target during the holiday season.”

The NFL Foundation makes a donation to every nominated player’s charity of choice. The Walter Payton Man of the Year award winner will have another donation made to the charity and will be announced February 8, 2024, at the NFL Honors event. Additionally, fans can support nominees and their charities on X (formerly Twitter) by tagging the nominees and including the hashtag #WPMOYChallenge. The three nominees with the most tweets will receive an additional donation to their chosen charity.

Previously, former head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Bruce Arians, and Los Angeles Chargers center, Corey Linsley, supported CASA programs through My Cause My Cleats.

National CASA/GAL is thankful for the players’ dedication to their chosen causes and appreciates the awareness this initiative generates for the selected local CASA programs and programs throughout the nation. My Cause My Cleats helps bring much-needed advocates to children and youth in the child welfare system.
