SEATTLE, Washington – Today, August 17, 2022, we celebrate National Nonprofit Day, recognizing the contributions of nonprofit organizations nationwide and the staff, volunteers and donors that make it all possible. There’s a lot to celebrate: There are over 1.5 million nonprofits in the U.S. alone, according to the National Center for Charitable Statistics, employing approximately 10% of our nation’s workforce. In 2021, Americans gave an estimated $484.85 billion to U.S. charities – more than ever before.

The reality is that nonprofit organizations like the National CASA/GAL Association for Children provide services essential to thriving communities, including a significant portion of the nation’s human services, health care, higher education, environmental stewardship, arts and culture. Nonprofits are also among the most trusted institutions in America, relied upon to shape better policies and deliver better results in local communities.

The past few years stretched our social safety net in profound and unpredictable ways. The children, youth and families we serve nationwide have felt that impact keenly yet shown tremendous resilience in the face of challenges. Our 93,000 dedicated and trained volunteers, almost 6,000 staff and donors nationwide kept pace, demonstrating their adaptability, mettle and true commitment. I take pride in how the National CASA/GAL Association for Children, our network of 950 state organizations and local programs and our broader community of partners and supporters rallied to meet the needs – as they do every day, for every child and young person we serve.

Please join us today in celebrating the sometimes unsung but always impactful work of nonprofits. It’s simple to do:
