The United States Department of Justice has supported the CASA network since 1985 through its Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). The CASA network enjoys broad, bipartisan support in the US Congress. Through the Violence Against Women Act, Congress authorizes funding to increase the number of CASA volunteers available to victims of child abuse or neglect.
The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention is a primary funder of the National CASA/GAL Association.
A significant amount of this funding is awarded to programs through a competitive grant process. Grants fund program development and expansion as well as other special projects. Additional funds are dedicated to providing training and technical assistance.
