CASA volunteer Mr. Velasquez quickly began an effort to provide direct assistance to his CASA counterparts that were impacted.

“I get so much more than what I give as an advocate,” Nevarez said. “It’s such a great feeling to work with these kids and be able to help.”

Volunteers like Sara make a life-changing difference for children and youth.

Mary* is a volunteer with Oakland County CASA in Michigan. She was assigned by a judge to the case of 17-year-old Anna*, who was being parented by an aunt and uncle after the untimely death of her mother when Anna was 7 years old.

As the pandemic unfolded in 2020, Aileen continued her visits virtually, and gradually transitioned to socially distanced in-person visits with the siblings and their mother.

Lisa*, a volunteer from CASA Youth Advocates in Media, PA, advocates for 15-year-old Jared* who is currently housed at a residential facility.

At first, Sam focused in part on ensuring the boys could have normal childhood experiences with a reliable adult, and on getting to know them.

Shaun* was removed from his parents and placed in foster care nearly 10 years ago.

Holly says that her relationship with the family taught her about the value of being present.
