For more than 30 years, the women of Kappa Alpha Theta have provided critical support for and partnership with National CASA/GAL and our nationwide network of programs.
The National Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian ad Litem (CASA/GAL) Association for Children is grateful for the incredible partnership with Kappa Alpha Theta and the tenacity, generosity and benevolence Theta members bring to their efforts in support of our mission.
Thetas have become interwoven in the CASA/GAL mission at the local, state and national levels. Thetas are judges and attorneys. They are board members, program directors, volunteers and fundraisers. They are speaking for children, strengthening relationships, fostering hope and leading by example. They have helped start new CASA and GAL programs in communities where none existed. The oldest of our strategic partnerships, since 1989 when Theta selected National CASA—now called the National Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian ad Litem Association for Children (National CASA/GAL)—as its national philanthropy, every member of Kappa Alpha Theta has learned about the CASA/GAL program within the first few weeks of joining the organization. Each year, National CASA/GAL gains thousands of champions for our mission to support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy so every child who has experienced abuse or neglect can be safe, have a permanent home, and the opportunity to thrive. The mission of National CASA/GAL has inspired many Theta collegians and alumnae, and many have achieved personal and professional growth through their involvement with a CASA or GAL program.
Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation has supported National CASA/GAL significantly from the beginning of this partnership, including a recently fulfilled $1 million gift to support efforts in performance measurement. Each year since 1990, Kappa Alpha Theta has sponsored National CASA/GAL’s Program Director of the Year Award, honoring the outstanding work of a CASA/GAL program director—further demonstrating Theta’s commitment to the success of these programs. In 2019, Kappa Alpha Theta received National CASA/GAL’s prestigious Children’s Champion Award honoring their incredible service and contributions.
In celebration of 150 years of Kappa Alpha Theta and the 30 years of partnership between Theta and National CASA/GAL, we are proud to share 30 stories that highlight the many ways in which Theta members have engaged with National CASA/GAL and its state and local programs. We are grateful for this partnership and the many leading women who have helped to support our mission.
These 30 stories offer just a glimpse into the incredible impact of this special partnership. There are thousands more stories just like these of Theta members connected to CASA/GAL programs at the local, state and national level through chapter fundraisers, personal volunteerism and advocacy.
Through the contributions Kappa Alpha Theta members make as volunteers, advocates, board members, partners, supporters and friends, National CASA/GAL and its programs have been significantly enhanced. Likewise, through their engagement, Theta members have shared the profound impact that their connection to CASA/GAL programs has had on them personally and professionally. This is truly a special partnership through which both organizations have benefited from a shared commitment to serving the children and families who need us most.
In recognition of this incredible partnership, Kappa Alpha Theta received National CASA/GAL’s prestigious Children’s Champion Award in 2019. Awarded to an individual or organization who has made a significant contribution at the national level to improving the lives of children who have experienced abuse or neglect, this award recognizes a partnership that is critical to the growth and advancement of our service to children. As shown throughout the stories in this book, Kappa Alpha Theta and its members have made a remarkable impact at all levels of the organization, and most importantly, on the lives of children and families we serve.
National CASA/GAL is deeply appreciative of this extraordinary partnership, and we look forward to the continued work we will do collectively to advocate for children and youth. Together we can get closer to our goal of helping every child who has experienced abuse or neglect have the opportunity to thrive in a safe and loving home.
